Aseema – Beyond Boundaries is a maiden project by KJ Dream Ventures. The film is based on the acclaimed Oriya novel ‘Aseema’ written by the noted Oriya poet and novelist Sailaja Kumari Aparajita Mohanty and is the story of Aseema, a divorcee with a young daughter, falls in love with a doctor but refuses to marry him due to societal pressures..
Cast: Gracy Singh, Asseem Merchant, Kiran Kumar
Now this one’s such an outdated story, it almost puts you in a time warp. Haven’t the makers actually realised that Indian cinema has indeed come a long way since women cried their way through films, divorce was a taboo, mothers didn’t re-marry and men wasted away in the shadows.
Ostensibly, Aseema (Gracy Singh) is a strong women. She turns her back to a bad marriage, takes up a job and decides to spend her life bringing up her daughter. Midway her crusade, she falls in love with the friendly neighbourhood doctor (Aseem Merchant) but strangely refuses his proposal with a whole lot of moth-balled talk about `parityag’ and `tyag’. The rest of the film is mostly drowned in copious tears as both the protagonists go their separate ways, sacrifice et al.
The film also promises to explore various emotions like love, dreams, hopes, expectations, sacrifices and strength, making it a complete rollercoaster ride. It is a commercial film with a hint of realistic cinema that promises to appeal to Indian audiences around the globe.
Apart from Gracy Singh (who comes back after a long gap), the film stars Aseem Merchant, Neha Pendse, Kiran Kumar, Namrata Thapa, Surendra Pal, Aryan and Siddhant. The director of the film Sisir P. Mishra, is known for his narrative style of handling sensitive subjects as in the 80’s classics Bheegi Palkein (starring Smita Patil) and Samay Ki Dhara (starring Shabana Azmi). With Aseema, he promises to putGracy Singh in the same light. The music of the film is by Shamir Tandon, which is in line with the story of the film. The film has been shot on locations in Mumbai and Orissa.
