John & Bips burn the screen !

Madhoshi, which forms the directorial debut of Tanveer Khan, is the first Bollywood film in which the September 11th attacks form the backdrop.

Cast: Bipasha Basu, John Abraham, Priyanshu Chatterjee

This is another one of Bipasha Basu’s heroine-centric films but there’s something about her, either her looks or talent, that leaves the audience unmoved. Anupama (Bipasha Basu) is the daughter of wealthy parents (Rajiv Verma, and Smita Jaykar), which is evident from her lifestyle and spending spree. The film starts with the wedding anniversary of her parents. Soon tragedy strikes in the form of Anupama’s sister and brother-in-law getting killed in the September 11 terrorist attack on World Trade Centre in New York. Don’t know why this sequence has been inserted into the film because there seems to be no mention of the dead anywhere in the film after that. Probably it was the maker’s way of showing his originality by showing the Twin Tower tragedy on the big screen for the first time!

A couple of years later, Anupama ‘s parents introduce her to Arpit (Priyanshu), a famous ad film maker. Arpit is smitten by Anupama at first sight and wants to tie the knot at the earliest. However, fate has something else in store. Anupama bumps into Aman (John Abraham), a member of an anti-terrorist organization. Cupid strikes and she is madly in love with him. They go out for a movie together and end up making love in his house that night. Now it is only natural for her to refuse to marry Arpit. When her parents protest, she slashes her wrist in frustration. She survives the tragedy but unfortunately it is discovered that there is no Aman existing. It is further revealed that Anupama suffers from schizophrenia.
