The movie “Kaala Patthar” is inspired by a real-life mining disaster that happened in India in the history of mining industry. On 27th Dec’75, the ‘Chasanala’ charcoal mine got flooded with water in which 572 workers were caught. It is an intensely dramatic film about the human heart. That as long as it beats with love and with hope, there will always be a dawn waiting at end of the blackest of nights. With a multi-star cast, a lively musical score and a nail-biting climax, Yash Chopra has made Kaala Patthar a memorable exception to the exquisitely soft, glamorous love stories that have become his hallmark.
Cast: Shashi Kapoor, Rakhee Gulzar, Amitabh Bachchan

Mangal (Shatrughan Sinha) is a convicted felon who escaped from custody and found work in the mine along side Vijay. And Ravi (Shashi Kapoor) is an engineer who is attempting to improve the deplorable conditions of the coal mines, but runs into severe interference from the mercenary owners of the facility.Later all these three men became friends and fights for justice against Dhanraj who makes lives difficult for the coal miners by giving them poor equipment, less than sufficient medical supplies and lack of facilities.
But when disaster strikes at the mine, trapping hundreds of men below the surface, Ravi must devote all his strength, imagination, and courage to find a way to bring the men back to safety, while Vijay and Mangal struggle to help rescue their co-workers and find redemption under trying and perilous circumstances. The disaster actually took place at a place called Chasnala in erswhile Bihar(now Jharkand).
