Kramer VS Kramer Meets Bollywood
The maker of the teenage love classic ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ and that wonderful bicycle movie ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander’ now decides to grow up and presents a sensitive potrayal of a marriage break-up in his latest movie- Akele Hum Akele Tum .
Cast: Aamir Khan, Manisha Koirala
Aspiring pop singer Rohit Kumar (Khan) meets classical singer-in-training Kiran (Koirala) at a New Year party. Kiran and Rohit defy her parents and wedding. They live in harmony for months, even after Kiran gives birth to Sunil. Then they start to have differences, which are minor at present, and then snowball. Kiran decides to leave Rohit, and moves back in with her parents, leaving Sunil in Rohit’s care. Years later, Kiran attempts to come back into Rohit’s life again, this time as a successful and popular actress, with a motive of taking the custody of Sunil. Rohit does not appreciate this, and the matter escalates to Court, and no one knows in whose favor the Judge will decide.
Thre acting, as you have come to expect from a Mansoor Khan movie is first rate. Among the character artistes, Tanvi Azmi stands out. There are some beautiful performance by Shafi Inamdar, Deven Varma and Rohini hattangadi in small but significant roles. Manisha Koirala as Kiran gives a wonderful performance- cementing a possible Filmfare award after that towering performance in ‘Bombay’. Though aamir has the tougher role. Manisha will be remembered. Aamir is Aamir- 24 carat gold as always. His scenes with his son are a treat. And the kid- he justs steals all the scenes from the heavy duty star cast. Not too precocious, he strikes the right note.
