Kashi is set in a remote village in Bihar called Dholkipur. The village is strongly divided on caste lines & caste hierarchies are strictly maintained. The show revolves around a lower caste girl called Kaashi who aspires to go to school. Kaashi dreams of learning, of getting an education & becoming someone important so that her amma & bauji can be proud of her.

However, Kaashi & her family soon discover that their dream is completely utopian. Every small step that Kaashi & her parents take towards achieving this dreams is met with stiff resistance from the upper caste sections & powerful elite of Dholkipur. Despite education being a right for all children irrespective of caste, creed or religion; the upper caste elite resist all attempts by Kaashi to fulfill her dream. They leave no stone unturned to ensure that Kaashi does not do anything to upset the balance of power & the societal divide that has been operational for centuries.

How Kaashi and her father Baburam strive to fight against all odds and attain the dream of a respectful life is at the heart of the narrative.
